Hi, just acquired Rumi Tipo Sport, unfortunately non running for over 20 years. Got some of the issues worked out but still can not figure out how to get the selector mechanism synchronized with the transmission. I can only select neutral and one gear. Would appreciate advice. Had one of these bikes when I was a kid. I live in Miami. Thanks

Hi,

Nice to have another member from North American here.

Regarding your problem with the gears.

1- Place the clutch ball bearing in the center clutch recess.
2- Check the clutch plunger is in place
3- Make sure the selector quadrant is in the central position
4- Rotate the gear selector drum clockwise to select 4th gear
5- Now hold down the rear section of the gear lever to it's stop. The front section uppermost.
6- Check the selector quadrant is now sitting the up position nearly touching the top of the inner casing.
7- Whilst holding the gearlever in this position offer the casing to the engine and push home still holding the gearlever in 4th gear

Here you can see how each gear is positioned. So before you close you can see if every year engage correctly and it's correct position. Then keep 4th year engage before closing.

If you still have doubts, at the website of the UK club, at the bottom you can find two method of setting up the gear change mechanism.

Thanks Hugo, Neither system worked to synchronize the transmision to the gearshift but on further inspection, I discovered that the inner teeth on the selector quadrant (8833-19) had been damaged. Then the previous owner had used a grinder to deepen the valleys between the teeth which did not solve the problem. In efffect, the selector failed to move the pawls. I doubt there are any replacements available. Any ideas? Yours, Joe Mensch

Hi Joe,

Have a look to the next links: https://www.ebay.it/itm/RUMI-125cc-2T-4 ... Sw8gVYB43l

I do not know the owner or the state of the part.

You can also open a topic at "Classified section" asking for any part you need. Other members of the forum may have them selling to you.

Greets,
Hugo

Hi Joe

Sorry about this, 8833-19 is a Gear Bushing. I think you mean 8836-29 which is the Control Quadrant. Please confirm.

Ian
